Paul Masson and His Wife: A Southern Pacific Courtesy Pass, 1894

An 1894 Southern Pacific courtesy pass names Paul Masson and his wife. Its attached outward check authorizes San Francisco to Los Angeles, while the main pass covers Los Angeles to San Francisco. Both carry serial C238. The surviving artifact opens a small window onto travel privileges prepared in Masson’s name, while leaving the reason for the courtesy and the journey itself to be established.
