Paul Masson’s Volnay Cellar in 1888: A 3,500-Franc Wine Draft
thomas brenner

A corrected manuscript headed “Volnay, 23 Août 1888” sets out a 3,500-franc acknowledgment in Paul Masson’s name for fine and ordinary wines in his Volnay cellar. Its inventory names vintages from 1885 to 1887, Gamay, white wine on the lees, and different cask conditions. An inserted phrase may refer to three pièces from America. That reading remains provisional and is presented here as an open research lead.
